Course organisation and communication

Course organisation

Through history, identity has been a constantly changing phenomenon. The course addresses the concepts of culture, nation, gender, race, religion and identity, and how these influence individuals’ scope of action and self-understanding. The course contains a critical review of claims that people have gone from collective self-understanding to an individualistic during the transition from early modern to modern and postmodern times. Within the course, the connection between identity and culture / popular culture will be studied in more detail. An introduction to the Arab world's modern political history with issues such as Arabic identity, unitary endeavours, the position of women and the relationship with Europe is included in the course.

The course is given as a modified distance course. This means that you as a student are capable of participation in the seminaries in real time. The participation is not mandatory and you are able to see the seminaries afterwards on www.vicom.se.

Registration for exams is not mandatory as exams happen through written essays.

The course communication will happen both through the learning platform Blackboard and through email contacts.
