The course commences with an introduction on the topic of automation. This is so that you can quickly get a general outline of the subject and a better understanding of subsequent courses. Exciting project work is a part of many of the courses, which is a normal form of study both at the University and in working life in the future.
Possible changes in the courses may occur. If you are reading a course with a "Co-op" experience then the course is four years long. For further information see the course plan that describes your studies

Field Environmental Engineering
|
After completing the course students will be able to
1. describe collection and sorting of waste with regard to various technical systems and the implications of producer responsibility
2. describe various waste treatment technologies (landfilling, thermal and biological treatment, and material recycling) of waste in terms of technical function and their related environmental impact
3. describe how waste can be prevented with respect to amount and hazardous content
4. explain how a waste management system can be designed and how it interacts with the environment
5. analyse potential improvements in waste management with application of the waste hierarchy
6. investigate and understand the causes and effects of waste management

Semester 1
|
Life Cycle Assessment 7.5 cr
Field Environmental Engineering
|
The course provides a profound theoretical review of life cycle assessment as a method to assess potential environmental impacts from cradle to grave for products and services. The course covers methods, uses and limitations of a life cycle analysis as well as a review of various environmental impact categories. In a laboratory experiment and a project assignment, students will implement a simplified life cycle analysis using a computer-based tool for a selected product. In an assignment students are trained to review, analyze and compare different life cycle analyzes of such system boundaries, data selection, data uncertainty, etc.
Semester 2
|
Scientific Theory and Writing 7.5 cr
Field Spatial Planning, Industrial Economics, Electronics, Geomatics, Building Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Geographical Information Technology, Geography, Energy Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Surveying Technology
|
The purpose of the course is to prepare the students for their coming theses. The main focus of the course is on a scientific literature study and on writing a literature review paper.
